- Exposure triangle – the engine room behind your image.
- Auto / Manual Focus & VR / IS / OS.
- Composition techniques and elements.
- Exposure bracketing.
- The histogram and how to use it effectively.
- Depth of Field – the creativity exposed.
- Metering and utilising the light.
- RAW vs JPG – The advantages and disadvantages.
- Using apppropriate processing software.
Skilled Course
4 x fortnightly sessions
2 x Saturday location sessions
Subjects include:
- Composition – understanding the balance and interaction of shapes, patterns and light.
- Image review and evaluation – how to critique your images.
- Determining, setting and correcting exposure.
- Understanding and using colour effectively – moods and emotions through colour.
- Subject lighting and understanding the importance of light.
- Using flash / speedlights – on and off camera.
- Image management and processing – using commercial and ‘free’ software.
- Landscape photography – how to capture the presence of nature.
- Portrait photography – styles, preparation, lighting, posing.
- Attributes of still life photography – setting up lighting, reflectors and props to create the mood and emotion.
- Motion and long exposure – portraying movement, freezing movement.

Meet the Course Tutors
Bruce Langdon
Bruce Langdon has been a photographer for many years and has a bachelor degree in Photography studying at Photography Studies College in Melbourne, Victoria.
Although his main love is landscape photography and has travelled to many areas in Australia, he is also skilled at lifestyle and portrait photography and loves working in the studio shooting product, food and personal fine art photographs experimenting with light.
Bruce is also a renowned graphic and web designer and uses his photographic skills to compliment the service he offers his clients with commercial photography.
Russell Monson
Building on many years of experience and self-taught skills, Russell has drawn upon his involvement in the Warrragul Camera Club and participation in several short courses to develop his skills.
Russell holds an Advanced Diploma of Photography completed at the Photography Studies College in Melbourne, Victoria.
Russell’s images have been accepted in (juried) National Photographic Competitions in Ballarat, Pakenham and Warragul. Russell’s image ‘Teamwork’ earned a Merit at Ballarat in 2016. ‘Eggs for Breakfast’ also gained a Merit at Pakenham in 2016. In 2018 the image ‘On Stage’ gained the award for ‘Best Photographic Work’ in the Ficifolia Art Show. Russell was also acknowledged as the ‘Most Successful Photography Exhibitor’ in this show.
